Megan Adamo – Compassionate Therapy
Hi, I’m Megan Adamo (she/her), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I am dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive space where people of color and LGBTQIA2S+ individuals feel safe, respected, and supported in my office. My therapeutic approach integrates several evidence-based frameworks, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Feminist theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Play Therapy. I believe in working collaboratively with clients to foster healing, growth, and resilience at every stage of life.

My Therapeutic Approach
My therapeutic approach is holistic and adaptable, drawing from several evidence-based frameworks to best meet the needs of each individual. I utilize EMDR, which helps clients process trauma and reframe negative beliefs, fostering emotional resilience. I incorporate play therapy techniques, allowing children to express their emotions, process life events, and build self-confidence in a safe, creative, and developmentally appropriate way. I also use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients align their behaviors with their values and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address unhelpful thought patterns. Grounded in Feminist theory, I emphasize empowerment, equality, and social justice, ensuring that clients feel seen, respected, and validated throughout our work together. By integrating these approaches, I aim to create a space for healing, growth, and the development of stronger self-identity.

Working with Children, Adolescents, and Adults
I work with children, adolescents, and adults to support their emotional and psychological well-being. I am a Registered Play Therapist. When I work with children, I use play therapy techniques that help them express their feelings and process life events in a safe and supportive environment. For adolescents, I create a safe, open space where they can explore their thoughts and emotions, build self-esteem, and develop coping skills. With adults, I collaborate to address issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship concerns, and more, helping them create a fulfilling and meaningful life.
EMDR Therapy
I am EMDR trained. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps individuals process traumatic memories, reduce distress, and develop healthier emotional responses. By using guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps rewire how the brain stores distressing memories, allowing clients to heal and move forward. Through this process, clients can move past stuck emotions, reduce anxiety, and create lasting positive change in their lives. This approach is especially effective for trauma, anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges.Â

My Background and Experience
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a passion for helping individuals and families navigate life’s challenges. I received my Bachelor's in Social Work from William Woods University and my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Missouri-Columbia. My career began at St. Louis County Children’s Division as a specialized case manager, where I worked with youth in foster care ages 14-20. I then continued my work at the Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition on Project SOAR (Stepping Out After Residential), assisting foster and adoptive children transitioning from residential facilities to less restrictive environments. I am trained in Adoption Competency (TAC) through The Center for Adoption Support and Education, and over the years, I have developed a deep understanding of the unique needs of children and families, particularly those navigating foster care and adoption.Â
My experience allows me to provide compassionate and effective therapy for clients of all ages, using a variety of techniques tailored to each individual. I am committed to helping clients foster growth, resilience, and healing as they navigate life's challenges.
